A tiny device that blocks GPS tracking and data logging units

GPS tracking units have become extremely popular over the past few years, as they allow users to keep an eye on an asset's (or person's) whereabouts without actually following them at all times. While these devices can prove to be extremely useful in fleet management operations, as well as covert surveillance, it would seem that they've caused enough "trouble" for a device that counters their actions to be developed, namely the Anti-Tracker GPS Blocker presented by the people over at Chinavision.

According the company, the device works in the simplest possible manner. Thus, all the user has to do in order to activate the Anti-Tracker GPS Blocker is plug it in the automobile's 12V cigarette-lighter adapter and switch it on. The device will then (presumably) start jamming the GPS signals received by the tracking devices and data loggers, preventing them from recording the vehicle's route and location.

As Chinavision informs us, the device works on the L1 system 1450 to 1600Mhz frequency band and provides a jamming power of around 200mW. It sports an antenna with a 50 w impedance and has a working range of around 2-4 meters. Moreover, it requires just 200mA of power in order to work and is far from being very bulky, as it measures just around 20 mm x 70 mm x 25 mm (roughly the size of an FM transmitter).

Even if this thing might seem to be quite useful for evading surveillance, it does pose quite a large number of legal problems. Thus, this jammer could be used by persons with malevolent intentions (a.k.a. car thieves) for blocking the security tracking devices installed in most cars nowadays, thus allowing said persons just enough time to escape with their loot. This is probably why this thing will never be approved for use or retail in most countries around the world but, then again, that won't stop the people who really want to get their hands on a unit, will it now?

Chinavision has released little relevant information about the Anti-Tracker GPS Blocker's pricing or availability. However, it would seem that interested customers will be able to purchase it "soon", and I'm pretty sure that it will pop-up in the line-up of quite an important number of online retailers, considering the fact that the Chinavision is mostly into wholesales, rather than retailing.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
