Vonage, a company which offers Internet telephony services and WiFi operator The Cloud have announced a service that will allow Vonage subscribers to make VoIP calls at any of The Cloud's WiFi hotspots. The calls can be made using Vonage's special WiFi enabled mobile handsets (among them the UTStarcom F1000 available for a price of about 90 pounds).

Inside a WiFi covered hotspot, the phone call is routed over the Internet and it will be charged at Vonage's standard tariff of 7.99 pounds per month. When the users leave the hotspot, they will have to use the normal mobile network to continue the call.

The Cloud runs nine hotspot zones in UK cities including London's square mile, Canary Wharf financial districts and Manchester city center. Also, it offers its services to major airports and rail stations, coffee shops, hotels and university campuses in UK.

"Enabling users to make telephone calls while on the move is the inevitable next stage of the VoIP revolution," stated Kerry Ritz, Managing Director of Vonage. "Vonage's partnership with The Cloud will provide our customers with the ability to make cheap voice calls while on their travels."
