His efforts are obvious, but he needs to work harder, judges tell him

Though many predicted he wouldn't last long on Dancing With the Stars since he's obviously the weakest link, Chaz Bono is still hanging in there. Last night was a major disappointment though.

For Broadway Night, Chaz and partner Lacey Schwimmer chose the tango from the Phanton of the Opera, so they definitely knew from the start the challenge before them.

Video of their routine and the judges' scores is below, embedded at the end of the article.

The footage shown before the dance revealed Lacey's motivational speech for Chaz: they had made it through to week 6, therefore more was expected from them than just basic choreography.

At the same time, pressure was bigger on Chaz to prove he was a proper dancer since, having made it in the second half of the season, he was no longer able to rely so much on his partner to make him look good.

However, it's not motivation that Chaz lacks but rather technique, as the judges also told him after the tango.

Carrie Ann Inaba praised him for the hard work he's been putting in to get the routine and the attitude right, but added that he'd have to “up the ante on the movement” for next week's dance because this would no longer cut it.

“At week 6, I want to see a little more content,” she stressed.

Len Goodman, on his part, chose to look on the bright side, noting that at least Chaz got through the routine without incident.

He also pointed out that the tango needed more aggression, but seemed willing to let that one go because it didn't suit Chaz's personality.

Bruno Tonioli, on the other hand, ripped into Chaz, comparing watching him do the tango to seeing “a cute little penguin trying to appear a huge, menacing bird of prey.”

“This character didn't fit you,” Bruno concluded.

Because of the judges' poor scores, Chaz and Lacey have once more landed at the bottom of the board, scoring only 19 of 30 possible points.
