The rogue app comes complete with toolbars for every browser

A new rogue application called ChatSend has been seen luring Facebook users into installing a piece of software that abusively advertises itself.

GFI Labs researchers noticed the app, at the time of its discovery more than 100,000 members sharing with the world that they “Like” it.

The ads on Facebook link to a page that offers the installer of ChatSend. During the setup process, a shady EULA appears that is highly difficult to read, making it almost impossible to determine what exactly the installation implies.

Also, under the Terms and Agreements, three boxes are already ticked, each of them validating the installation of toolbars, search engines and predefined URLs as homepage. To make sure all customers can benefit from its features, the application installs components for most of the popular web browsers.

Once it's set in place, it starts sending automated messages to your friends, each of them containing different links that point to the download site.

Facebook is already blocking the malicious page which can do anything from serving malware to spamming the inboxes and social media accounts of your friends.

If by mistake you installed ChatSend, you can remove it from the Add/Remove Programs section of your control panel, after which I recommend a full system anti-virus scan to make sure no further unfortunate incidents may occur. A lot of people have tested the chat client and they now dearly regret doing so.

“Why some file called Chatsend is being sent automatically from my chat and now facebook had blocked my chat for two days!! can anyone help me out and lemme know how to stop this please!!” reads the message of a desperate member.

Make sure to avoid such offers and if you want to try out some new programs, always read some reviews before installing who knows what malevolent element on your computer.
