Instant messaging client Adium has received a rare stable update that adds tons of tweaks and improvements based on user testing, including an updated libpurple build to fix security issues. Get the full scoop below.

A free instant messaging application for Mac OS X that can connect to AIM, MSN, XMPP (Jabber), Yahoo, and other IM protocols, Adium rarely gets any stable updates, but when it does, the accompanying changelog is a mile long. So I’ll just highlight the important bits for you here. For starters, Adium 1.5.10 gets libpurple 2.10.9, which reportedly fixes “many security issues.”

Any problems causing high CPU load when a connection is lost should be gone now. A bug that can cause disconnects when using a Retina Mac with an external screen is also fixed.

Other fixes are included for Adium connecting to accounts during PowerNap, using the proximity sensor of modern Macs, dates in the chat log viewer not showing up for very old logs, connecting to servers with outdated TLS support using the unofficial SIPE plugin, vertical placement of the unread count in tabs, and more.

The PSMTabBarControl framework used in Adium for tabs has been updated, and yet another security issue is patched by enabling a number of TLS ciphers using SHA256. Download Adium 1.5.10 for your Mac and apply these changes today.
