Dropping the extra pounds was not a vanity thing, she says

Controversial singer, songwriter and television personality Charlotte Church has returned to the spotlight, looking in better shape than ever, having lost about 3st (19kg) in a little over a year. However, her more toned figure, as hot as it might be, is not the result of vanity, Church tells Fabulous magazine, but rather of pressure from the industry.

First of all, losing that much weight was no walk in the park, the star reveals in that typical frank manner she has of speaking on everything. Charlotte did not abstain from anything while pregnant with any of her two kids and she never liked working out, no matter how much partner Gavin Henson tried to make her get out more. Not even now, when she’s in such an enviable shape, does she work out: running after the kids and taking care of the house is enough to burn all those extra calories.

Another point Church is trying to make is that she isn’t out to promote herself through her recent weight loss, and thus send the wrong message to all the other women out there. She says she did not lose the weight as a vanity thing because, quite frankly, she liked how she looked before as well. Of course, she too had her bad days but those were only a couple a year, so, overall, she was happy with her curves. However, not to downplay her achievements, she says she feels better and healthier now that she’s some pounds lighter.

“Unfortunately, in our industry you have to be slim,” Church says. “Now I like to cook healthily for the kids and we don’t have any sweets in the house anymore. We’ve got a big gym at home with everything in it, but I never use it. The exercise I get running after the kids, trying to keep the house clean, cooking and doing the washing – it’s non-stop,” she adds about how she managed to become this thin and toned.

Not that she hates her body from before, Church further says. “I see all the pictures of how I used to look and I still like that ‘before’ me. When you’ve got a family and kids, what you look like doesn’t come into the picture. Maybe I’ll have certain days where I think I look horrendous, but that’s only twice a year and I don’t obsess about it. I never have done. Whether I’m a size 14 or a size 8, it doesn’t matter. Even if I’d been a size 20, I would still have been a happy bunny,” the star explains.
