Charlize Theron stars in Niki Caro's latest movie, which was presented at the Toronto Film Festival.
The movie is based on the true story of a 1989 huge class-action lawsuit that aimed to alter gender politics in American industry.
The Oscar-winning actress portrays Josey Aimes, a woman who returns to Minnesota to rebuild her life after fleeing from an abusive husband.
Charlize Theron has lived a tragic experience as well. In 1991, her Mother, Gerda, killed her alcoholic father, Charles, who has been beating her.
In the movie, Josey Aimes is the leader of female workers in the rise against the abuse they face from male personnel.
Many women from North America say that the situation did not change very much.
"This goes on everywhere. This is not, like, something that happened in the 1960s," the actress said.
