Two time Oscar winner Tom Hanks (Best Actor in Leading Role for Forrest Gump 1995 and Philadelphia 1994) is in talks with one time Oscar winner Charlize Theron (Monster 2003) for a future movie about Marilyn Monroe's life. The biopic has all the chances to reach the theaters in 2007, as both famous people involved have enough fame and recognition as well established powerhouse household names of Tinseltown to get their project started and completed in no time.
Tom Hanks has been previously involved in both directing (episodes for different TV series) and producing. His company, Playtime Films has already been behind lots of TV movies, TV series and last but certainly not least two Academy Awards nominated movies (My Fat Greek Wedding and Cast Away).
Hanks was inspired to finance a movie about the screen ultimate icon by a book on Monroe's life: Anthony Summers' biographical novel, Goddess. The novel takes a straight look at Marilyn's live and love affairs but also dares take a glimpse at the way fame and fortune might end up torturing one fragile human being.
Charlize Theron is herself fascinated by Monroe and even intended to buy the Beverly Hills villa where the goddess lived.
Before starting to impersonate Marilyn Monroe the Aeon Flux star has to complete the shooting for director F. Gary Gary's Brazilian Job (a sequel to 2001's Italian job remake of the classic Michael Caine heist movie) and also work with Boys Don't Cry Director Kimberly Peirce for her new movie „The Ice at the Bottom of the World".
