Another one of Gillian Flynn’s thrillers is getting the big screen treatment: “Gone Girl” was a huge critical and commercial hit last year, becoming soon the movie that everyone was talking about, but “Dark Places” is getting a more quiet release.

Ahead of its release date next month in most European countries, we have a first international trailer for it. As usual, you can find it embedded in full below.

“Dark Places” is the story of Libby Day, a woman whose entire family was brutally murdered in what was believed to be a satanic ritual. She testified against her brother, the only other survivor, and had him imprisoned for life, after he’s found guilty.

About 30 years later, she’s forced to revisit the events of that horrible night after she’s contacted by an underground group of people whose focus is famous crimes. They promise her closure, but that’s probably not what she’ll get.

“Dark Places” is directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner and stars Charlize Theron as the lead, but also Nicholas Hoult, Chloe Grace-Moretz, Christina Hendricks and Drea de Matteo.

I have to admit, “Dark Places” happens to be one of my favorite books (really, give it a try, it’s beautiful), but I don’t feel like this trailer does the story any justice. If anything, the preview plays like an above-average Lifetime movie, but it could be all in the editing.
