Charlize Theron is getting a lot of Oscar buzz this year for her role in the dark comedy “Young Adult,” one that, she says, she could never understand. Charlize doesn’t get women’s obsession with Hello Kitty fashion.

As we also noted on various previous occasions, in the film, the Oscar-winning actress plays a woman who returns to her hometown with only one purpose in mind: to win back the guy she dated in high school.

Though everyone else she knew back then has grown up, including the man of her dreams, she hasn’t – and this is also apparent in her love of Hello Kitty fashion.

Despite becoming the character in order to play her, Charlize says she’s still baffled by grown women’s obsession with Hello Kitty, so that part of her she doesn’t understand.

“I’m pretty amazed by Hello Kitty. I see so many women in their 30s walking around in Hello Kitty [stuff] – and nobody is concerned for them,” the star tells Us Weekly, hinting that said women might need help for their obvious refusal to grow up.

“It’s the one iconic teenage symbol that seems okay for women in their 30s? The world seems to not have an issue with it,” Charlize further says.

Even though she doesn’t understand how women this age can still take a liking to the cartoon character, Charlize knew it was just the thing for her role in “Young Adult,” she further reveals.

“[I] said to the costume director, ‘Get me some Hello Kitty T-shirts.’ Those were my demands,” she recalls.

As a fun fact, one of the most famous female stars to have such an “addiction” to everything Hello Kitty is Mariah Carey who, until not long ago, could also be seen wearing bad-aids with the beloved cartoon character.

Certainly, Charlize wasn’t referring to her when saying these things.

Another fun fact is that Hello Kitty doesn’t have a mouth because she speaks from her heart.
