Naturally, the feared Mexican demon is called Charlie

Since there is nothing social media loves more than a good dare, here's a brand new one that those more superstitious of the bunch will surely adore: the Charlie Charlie Challenge.

Trending as #CharlierCharlieChallenge on Twitter, this dare has teenagers and even young kids use pencils to summon a Mexican demon named - you've guessed it - Charlie.

Here's how it works

The Charlie Charlie Challenge might be about summoning Mexican demons of the underworld, but you don't need any special training in the art of the occult to get it right.

All you have to do is find a piece of paper, draw a horizontal line and a vertical one to make a table of sorts, put down “yes” and “no” twice in opposing sections, and then balance two pencils one on top of the other smack at the center of your homemade and rather simplistic Ouija board.

When you're done prepping for your encounter with Charlie the Mexican demon, simply summon him by asking “Charlie, Charlie, are you there?” or “Charlie, Charlie, can we play?”

If the top pencil moves and points to “yes,” you're welcome to grill Charlie and ask him whatever you might want to know. If he can help you, he'll answer by moving the top pencil to a “yes” or to a “no” square on your piece of paper. If not, he'll remain silent and the top pencil still.

Remember to be polite

Apparently, Charlie has some self-esteem issues and takes it personally when people simply wrap up the piece of paper and the pencils when they're done playing the demon whisperers.

If you don't want to piss him off and have him smite you with all his wrath, you'd better make sure you ask for permission before abandoning the game.

“Charlie, Charlie, can we stop?” is what you're supposed to ask him. If the top pencil moves to “no,” cancel your plans for the rest of the day and mentally prepare yourself to stare at the sheet of paper for a few good hours.
