Actor Charlie Sheen is again making headlines – again for reasons independent of his acting career. The star was taken to the hospital the other night, after police were called to his hotel room.

Sheen was in New York City at the time the incident occurred, having flown there to spend some time with his and ex-wife’s children.

TMZ reports police were called for a “possible intoxication,” after something ticked off the star and he began thrashing the hotel room he and a female companion were sharing.

When police officers arrived, they found Charlie not wearing any clothes and apparently so intoxicated he could barely make any sense. The woman had locked herself in the bathroom, reports say.

“We’re now told at 2:07 AM, emergency dispatch received a 911 call for possible intoxication. Charlie was taken to New York Hospital at 2:30 AM,” TMZ says.

“Police sources say Charlie went voluntarily and that Charlie was ‘intoxicated, irrational’ and ‘emotionally disturbed’,” the same report informs.

The same media outlet says Charlie probably lost his temper after he arrived with the woman at his hotel room, and he noticed his wallet had gone missing.

Afraid for her safety, the woman, whose identity has not been revealed to the media, ran away and locked herself in the bathroom as Sheen thrashed the room, even damaging the chandelier.

Since the actor agreed to go to the hospital by himself, no charges were pressed, which means he will not be held in violation of his parole, word in the industry has it.

Charlie’s publicist and lawyer have both issued statements about the incident, urging fans and the media not to jump to any conclusion: it wasn’t prompted by alcohol or drug abuse, it was just an allergic reaction to medication.

“What we are able to determine is that Charlie had an adverse reaction to some medication and was taken to the hospital, where he is expected to be released tomorrow,” Sheen’s publicist says in a statement to E! Online.

“Charlie is being evaluated and should be released tomorrow. We think he had an allergic reaction to some medicine,” the actor’s attorney says for the same e-zine.
