Charlie Hunnam came very close to being the man millions of women will drool over in February 2015, when the film “Fifty Shades of Grey” comes out, but he backed out of the project a few weeks after signing on for it. That isn’t to say that he’s not a delight to look at, with or without a shirt.

He is now featured on the seventh and final season of “Sons of Anarchy” on FX, which wrapped production last week and will air its last episode in December.

Charlie is talented, promising and very handsome. And he’d like to get your attention by showing off his ripped body in the December 2014 issue of Men’s Health.

Tips for guys: keep it old school, keep it disciplined

The magazine brings a gorgeous and slightly country-themed spread with the actor: you will find a few photos in the gallery below, with more about to emerge online when the full edition comes out. Also below, you will find a video from behind the scenes, in which Hunnam explains that he likes to keep it old school where his workout routine is concerned.

As he puts it, all he needs is 1 hour a day to work out, so you too can get his body with a bit more discipline. Discipline is key to Charlie, and he exercises it not only at the gym, but in his career too: he says that his “thing” is to never stretch himself too thin, to always do his stuff properly, in a way that will make him feel proud, looking back.

As for what he does when he’s working out, here’s what he tells the mag, “I go into the gym and do 75 pull-ups, 75 dips, 150 squats, 150 pushups, and then 20 minutes of ab work. Done. It takes an hour; I'm in and out. I sweat the whole time. I work out more for the mental than the physical aspect. I can get slightly dark when I'm not keeping a routine. It's all about feeling healthy and energetic.”

He doesn’t say if he also sticks to a particular diet, or at least the preview version of Men’s Health doesn’t mention anything about it.

That “Fifty Shades of Grey” role

Because people still can’t understand why he’d pass on the chance of being Christian Grey in the 2015 film, which is guaranteed to be a huge commercial hit even though critics will trash it, the topic of his decision to drop out comes up in the interview with the fitness publication.

Hunnam doesn’t add anything more to the story he’s already told several times: he wanted to be part of the project and thought that the role had huge potential, so he accepted the offer. However, it wasn’t until later that he realized the kind of schedule he’d have to work with (“Fifty Shades” and “Sons of Anarchy” had overlapping production times) and that this would prevent him from giving either role his best.

This was when he announced his decision to drop out and was replaced by Jamie Dornan. Hunnam says that, if he’d stayed on “Fifty Shades,” the movie would have turned out to be a “disaster” because of his inability to focus because of the schedule. Some might argue that it might still be one, but for the different reasons.

As a bonus, in the gallery, you will also find older photos from a Men’s Fitness shoot Hunnam did (2011). He always had this amazing body.
