Apple has confirmed that its new 12-watt Power Adapter selling for $19.99 / €15 will charge existing iPads and iPhones faster, compared to the charging times recorded with the older adapters.

The fourth-generation iPad, as well as the iPad mini, will ship with a 12W USB Power Adapter for charging directly through an electrical outlet. Apple says customers can “purchase this additional adapter to have a second charger for home or office.”

Asked whether or not the extra watts will translate into shorter charge times, Apple said yes.

“We don’t have an exact percentage of how much faster it would charge but you should see an increase in speed,” reads the company’s exact statement, according to 9to5mac.

While the new iPads are about a week away from shipping, you can order the new adapter right now to have it shipped to your door in 1-3 business days (in the US).
