Chaos Reborn is a new turn-based action strategy game developed by the creator of the original XCOM. The project is now up on Kickstarter and the community must contribute if they want this project to exist.

Chaos Reborn is actually based on another very old title that was initially released back in 1985 by the Games Workshop, called simply Chaos. This new version is actually only in part a sequel, and the rest is the contribution of Julian Gollop, the creator of XCOM.

“The magic combat system remains true to the original Chaos. It is all about summoning a host of weird and mythical creatures, moving and fighting with them, and using your wizard to attack, defend, buff and de-buff with large array of spells. It is highly tactical and fast paced. But Chaos Reborn expands considerably on this by offering multiplayer modes, a single-player RPG system and co-op play,” said the famous designer on the Kickstarter website.

In Chaos Reborn you take the role of an apprentice wizard that needs to learn spells and gather special equipment so you can eventually get through the hierarchy – Wizard Lord, Wizard King, Demigod, and ultimately God. In the end you will be able to influence the fate of the entire Universe.

The game might seem simple at first. One level actually consists of an arena where you battle other wizards, with a limited number of spells. The level ends when only one wizard is left standing.

A battle usually lasts between 10 and 30 minutes, players have access to more than 80 unique spells (including 24 creatures), a number of classical spells from the original Chaos game will be implemented, players can manipulate the balance of the Cosmos between Law and Chaos to their advantage, all the arenas are procedurally generated, ensuring that you don't get the same level twice, and numerous gameplay modes will be available.

Chaos Reborn is built using the Unity 3D engine, which means that the developers will be able to provide a Linux version right from the start. The creator of the game, Julian Gollop, also added a large number of tiers so that anyone can participate. The lowest price for a tier that will ensure that you get a copy is $20 (€14.5).

The game is expected to ship in April 2014, if the Kickstarter project is a success. You can see more details about Chaos Reborn on the official website.
