The famous game designer behind the original XCOM series, Julian Gollop, is currently working on a reboot of his strategy game Chaos: The Battle of Wizards.

The remake of the 1985 Spectrum game will be titled Chaos Reborn and will follow the original's theme, having a group of wizards fighting to the death in an arena.

The game will be a turn-based role-playing game, and will allow for both a single-player campaign with co-op integration as well as competitive multiplayer, that is planned to support two to six players.

The arenas will be completely procedurally generated, keeping in tone with his preference from XCOM, and players will have a total of 64 different spells to choose from in order to defeat their opponents, out of which 24 will be summonable creatures.

Gollop initially announced his intentions more than a year ago, and now he says that he has been spending the last year working on Chaos Reborn, refining the game design, creating a playable prototype and putting together a team, now stating that he aims to deliver the project about a year from now.

The game's Prefundia page has more details, and announces the imminent Kickstarter campaign for Chaos Reborn. It also lists the intended platforms the game will launch on as PC, Mac and Linux.

“In my 30 years of game development, after many critically acclaimed projects, I think the original Chaos stands out as a game with unrealised potential,” Gollop reveals.
