The rumor that Channing Tatum was going to star in an X-Men spinoff movie has been floating around since early this summer. People on the X-Men production team had expressed interest in the actor and the project, Channing himself expressed interest in the part and the role, so there was really no stopping this from happening.

This week, we have the first tangible proof that Marvel is considering making the spin-off, as Deadline reports that Fox has set John Zetumer as the man who will write the screenplay for the film. Zetumer has previously worked on the “Robocop” movie.

The report also claims that Tatum has officially been signed to the project and that he's also going to produce with his Free Association partner Reid Carolin, Lauren Shuler Donner from The Donners Company and Simon Kinberg from Genre Films.

The screenplay is said to be based on a comic written by the legendary Chris Cleremont, who also co-created the character in 1990. The story is being kept under tight wraps, but it's believed that it's going to follow the origin of Remy LaBeau, a man who can channel energy into just about everything he touches, causing the object to explode on impact.
