Here’s something you have probably never imagined seeing in print: buzz is picking up that Channing Tatum might score his first Oscar nomination (and perhaps even win!) with the upcoming sports drama “Foxcatcher.”

A new trailer for it has just been released and is available in full and in HD below. It clocks at just a little over 1 minute, but it’s so intense and foreboding that you almost feel tempted to replay it to see what you've missed.

In the film, Channing plays a wrestler who is obsessed with winning gold at the Olympics no matter the cost. From the final scene in the trailer, which sees him smash a mirror with his head after repeatedly slapping himself hard across the face, I’m guessing that “cost” will come mostly at his expense.

Steve Carell, under heavy makeup and prosthetics, and Mark Ruffalo also star, but the focus of the trailer is on Channing mostly.

“Foxcatcher” is directed by Bennett Miller, who also helmed the critically acclaimed “Moneyball” with Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill. The man knows how to do solid sports dramas, what more can we say.

It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May to very glowing reviews, and will arrive in theaters in November. I, for one, can’t wait to see an extended preview for this one. How about you?
