NCAA Football 11 might live in the shadow of Madden NFL but there are plenty of sports fans interested in seeing how EA Sports tackles the different mechanics of college-based football. And now, it seems that the company is ready to talk about this year's installment of the long running series, with the first image appearing (you can see it attached to this article) and with some details related to gameplay ready to be talked about.

Russ Kiniry, who is one of the producers working on NCAA Football 11, told ESPN in a first look article that “Formation subs are back [...] that's the best way to put it. It's exciting for us as well because I love running two-back systems, and there's nothing better than to be able to set up different formations with different backs. So now, just like how it worked on PS2, you'll be able to go in and for each formation, you'll be able to choose who you want in there.”

Most other changes seem aesthetics linked at the moment. There will be a new dynamic helmet number system, players will have different lengths for their sleeves, some will wear hand warmers or knee braces, especially if they have recently had an injury. EA Sports is also interested in introducing referees to the actual game for the first time, employing a special Artificial Intelligence routine to make sure that they stay out of the way of the action.

The developers are also bringing over the Pro Tak technique, which is being included in Madden NFL, aiming to improve on the technique by making it smoother and by tweaking the number of big tackles that happen in every game.

NCAA Football 11 is set to be outed sometime before the next Madden NFL and it will certainly be delivered on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and on the PlayStation 3 from Sony. It's not clear whether a Nintendo Wii version is also planned.
