Championship Manager 5 is a video game that was developed by Gusto Games and published by Eidos. It was launched for the PlayStation 2 gaming console from Sony, for the Xbox from Microsoft and for the PC. It was released in 2005.
This is by no means "The World's No. 1" football manager game, nor is it the second. It may just be the worst. Eidos had a series and they tried to keep it alive even if they did not have the know how. What did they manage to achieve? A game which a first time player will hate. Veterans will stay away from it. Maybe the modding communities can save the game, but do not bet on it.
Championship Manager was conceived by Paul and Oliver Collyer in 1992. They developed the original game in their bedroom and it was pretty successful as it managed to convey a simulation of owning a football club. The bedroom turned into Sports Interactive Games. The first two releases, CM 1 and CM 93/94, were handled by Domark.
The fall of 2003 brought an end to the relationship between Eidos and SIG. After the split, both parties kept their intellectual property. SI Games kept the base code, the game database and programming of the game, whilst Eidos kept the name "Championship Manager" and its interface. This game is the result of that split.
GAMEPLAY HINTS
Get any player
Decide which player you want, then go to "Make Offer" under "Actions" on the player. Make a loan offer (must be 100% wages and one month). If he joins on loan, put him in the youth squad then select "Actions" and approach to sign him. He will then sign on a free transfer.
Getting good players cheaply
An easy and cheap way to get good players if you are in a low league is to check out the non league teams in Spain. Here you will find good players for cheap. However, sometimes the board of the team who you are trying to buy a certain player from will cancel the transfer, as they will claim that the squad is not big enough. You may need to swap some youth players to buy some of the good players to improve your team.
