Champions of Norrath: Return to Arms is a video game created by Snowblind Studios and published by Sony Online Entertainment. It was only developed for the PlayStation 2 gaming console from Sony and published in 2005. The game is classed as an action title with a dark medieval theme that sought to introduce some light role playing game elements and. It is played from a third person perspective.
The game is a direct prequel of Lands of Everquest and the action is set in the EverQuest universe. There is an evil power, Innoruuk, which is planning to take over the entire world by gaining access to all the Planes of Power so as to ascend to ultimate power. The quest that the player undertakes is to confront this giant evil. Most reviewers stated that the story of the game was rather weak, with forgettable characters and uninterested levels.
The level up elements and the weapon selection in the game are well done and there are varied enemies that require varied tactics in order to be taken down. The combat in the game might be its strong suit but the spell based combat is also very well implemented.
The game has spawned a successful sequel and the developers are suggesting that every player completes the game so that he can import his character in Realms of Everquest.
GAMEPLAY HINTS
Defeating the Iron Guardian
This works best with two players. Throw exploding potions at it. They will do lots of damage. Have at least 20 potions each. If you run out of potions you can also cast spells at it (best with Erudite Wizard) or wait until it does an attack where it swings one arm in front then the other one. Go behind it when it does this and melee attack. Get out of there really quickly because it will swing around and kill you in one hit.
Defeating Minotaurs
Minotaurs will first appear in the Plane of Torment. They can be very difficult to defeat, especially if you do not have much life or health tonic remaining. Stock up on gas/fire potions. If you know a Minotaur is ahead of you, equip a gas/fire potion. When the Minotaur is coming towards you, throw the potion. When the Minotaur becomes green, or lights on fire, run. He will chase you, but the potion will make him stop and jerk every few feet, giving you an opportunity to gain some ground and take pot shots with your bow, throwing axes, or whatever you have to fling at him. Do not waste any potions while he is already incapacitated, as they do not do enough harm to make much difference, and you will need them later. The fire potion may be a little stronger, but the gas potion lasts longer, giving you more time to assault your foe. Note: Gas potions do not work on the little black enemies but fire will; although it is generally easier to just chop them to bits and guard when needed.
