Superhuman gambit

Champions Online is poised to be released in less than two months and the developers at Cryptic have announced what players need, both in terms of software and hardware, in order to run the MMO. The game itself might be centered on superheroes and their exploits in a fictional world but the real world demands on computers running Champions Online are not superhuman.

Here's what you need at a minimum to be able to run the game, although you should not expect a great performance. A processor that runs at 2.5 GHz, single core, or 1.8 GHz, dual core, is a must, backed up by 1 GB of RAM system memory.

Players also need an NVIDIA GeForce 7800 or ATI Radeon X700 or an Intel Graphics with Dual Core solution to provide the looks for the game, while 5 GB of hard drive space is required for installation. Windows XP or Vista, together with DirectX 9.0c, are also needed to run Champions Online.

In case they plan to turn the graphics options to maximum, Cryptic suggests that players have a configuration powered by a 2GHz Dual Core processor, with at least 2 GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 or ATI Radeon HD3850 video card. The same amount of free hard drive space is suggested while software requirements remain the same.

If gamers are not interested in checking system specs and playing the game on the PC, they can look forward to the release of the Xbox 360 version of the MMO, which is developed in parallel at Cryptic.

Unfortunately, it is not clear when the version is released but given the fact that the game will come to the PC on September 1, the Xbox 360 version should be out by the end of the year, in order to make sure that those who play it on consoles are not at a disadvantage.
