Champions League is in great danger of annihilation. Although most of the European officials have repeatedly stated that the organization of the G14 - a group that is now formed of 18 football giants - could endanger the future of international football, the group is now starting its own league.

A league in which the most powerful teams in the world - financially speaking - can compete, regardless of the place they'll finish by the end of their domestic championship. In other words, it really doesn't matter if you finish 7th, 10th or even be relegated - like Juventus. As long as you have the money, the domestic 'League' is not important.

The world of football, represented by FIFA's president Sepp Blatter, as well as the politic world, represented by Great Britain Prime Minister Tony Blair - have condemned this initiative.

Repeatedly, they've been launching 'a cry for help' to all those who will take part in 'futuristic promoting actions' concerning G14. It all seems in vain though, and the 2007/08 European season seems to be the first one in which clubs like Real Madrid, AC Milan or Juventus will certainly miss.

What's very odd though is the fact that a lot of clubs that are going to pump a lot of money into this league are currently facing great financial issues. Take for example Borrusia Dortmund or even Olympique Marseille who barely have the money to pay the players. In the meantime, one of the most powerful club, financially speaking, Chelsea, is not a G14 member. Not only that, but it seems that they will not receive an invitation in the near future. So, they are most likely to watch the future league on TV.

As things are going, the internal combat between European clubs will seize to be that important. But that's less likely to happen in the Eastern countries, where playing in the Champions League will continue to be a great performance. Still, with all the media attention focused on the future league of G14, its highly unlikely for UEFA to be able to support the Champions League financially, as the level of prizes is concerned.
