A new flavor of the Chameleon Launcher is now available for download through the official Google Play Store, with a nice range of enhancements packed inside, just as the team behind it has announced last month.

The new Chameleon Launcher 2 (which, in fact, sports version 1.9.166 and is a pre-release iteration) is available for download for all handsets and tablet PCs running under Android 3.2 or newer.

This is the first flavor of the application to arrive in the Google Play Store with support for Android-based smartphones, while also packing a new interface and a great deal of enhancements inside.

However, the application is locked in beta at the moment, as it was intended only for Kickstarter backers and pre-order customers, but should be pushed to more users in the not too distant future.

“This beta will come through the Google Play store for those who have the free Chameleon Launcher apk. This update will allow you to run Chameleon on supported tablets as well as phones,” the development team notes on its website.

Phones we are targeting are those with at 720×1280 screen resolution and up. We will run the beta for a couple weeks in order to get enough feedback and bug reports to iron out the last remaining issues.”

The team plans on making the application available for purchase within several weeks for $3.99, with support for both phones and tablets. It will also be released as a phone-only app at $2.99.

Some of the main enhancements packed inside the new application release include updated Home Screen and Context system, providing users with three pages of widgets apps and folders per contextual home screen.

All widgets have been enhanced in this release, although no new one was added. According to the development team, widgets now feature a new, bolder header packing a new “More” button for increased functionality. There are also a series of performance improvements for users to take advantage of, it seems.
