Mark Cerny, the main designer responsible for the PlayStation 4 home console, says that the development team working on the new Destiny video game from Bungie is 700 people strong at the moment.

In an interview with VG247, he explains the design philosophy that underpinned the creation of the new console.

He says, “That’s true whether you’re talking Destiny with their 700-strong team or you’re talking one guy doing everything. They want to focus on the creative vision.”

Destiny is an ambitious project that aims to mix shooter elements with a social aspect and with role-playing game mechanics.

Bungie has experience with big teams after creating four core Halo titles for Microsoft.

It’s unclear what the costs associated with having a 700-man team working on Destiny are.

The game is expected to launch in 2014 on current-gen consoles, the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
