Japanese company Century has decided to outdo Icy Dock and has just introduced a 5.25” HDD enclosure that will fit four 2.5” HDDs or SSDs inside it. We reported here about the innovative Icy Dock MB994IPO-3SB Dual-HDD enclosure, and now we have something even better.

While the Icy Dock MB994IPO-3SB Dual-HDD enclosure allowed the user to fit two 2.5” drives and a top-of-the-line slim Blu-ray disc writer inside a single 5.25” bay, Century’s new dock is more server-oriented and fits 4 notebook HDDs inside.

The user is reportedly free to use SSDs or even 12.5mm HDDs like WD’s VelociRaptor or Seagate’s Cheetah, as the new dock will fit them all.

Century calls it CMRK-S4, and the whole thing is cooled by a rather fast 40mm fan that spins at about 4000 RPM. The company claims that it will not go beyond 25 dB noise-wise, but we have a hard time believing that.

Although Century’s CMRK-S4 has a metallic body that should improve the cooling if the user is not using SSDs, the cooling fan should always be in good working condition.

Century’s new toy is priced at just $50 and that’s about €41 for the European buyers.
