The Sun State based memory manufacturer has recently launchedtheir own iteration of the SandForce 2281 based design on its official page. It’s called Centon Diamond VVS1 and is fully compatible with SATA III.

The product clearly makes use of the extra bandwidth as it comes with rated speeds of 400 MB/s when reading and 300MB/s for writing.

The manufacturer’s specifications are :

- SSD SATA III interface - 2X nm multi-level cell (MLC) - SandForce 2281 controller - 99.8 x 69.63 x 9.3 mm dimensions - 77g weight - 1500G shock resistant - Standard SATA power connector - RAID support - Slim 2.5" design - Storage temperature: (°C): -40 to 85°C - Read speed: Up to 400 MB/sec - Write speed: Up to 300 MB/sec - MTBF: 2,000,000+ hrs - OS compatibility: Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, and Mac OS X - 2-year warranty, toll free tech support, 24-hour forum support.

There’s no mention about what kind of flash design the drives has. The manufacturer doesn’t say if it’s synchronous or asynchronous as asynchronous setups are quite slower than synchronous designs.

While enthusiasts all over may be eagerly buying heaps of SandForce 22xx drives we all know what happens when you start using one as you OS boot drive. The performance of the drive area with diverse data on it will be much lower than the area free of data.

And if you go for a small 60 or 40 GB drive, you’ll be surprised what happens when you fill more than 80 percent of the drives capacity: the performance you’ll experience will be lower than half of what’s written on the box.

But that’s the usual compromise when buying a SandForce 22xx based drive.
