Centipede is a remake of the 1980 arcade game, produced by Atari and designed by Ed Logg and Dona Bailey. This version has multiple in-game innovations, with improved gameplay and graphics. It retains the original idea of shooting the entire centipede repeatedly. The player assumes the role of a futuristic vehicle named "The Shooter", rather than the original garden gnome.

Gameplay consists of a series of "rounds" which are completed once the player eliminates the

centipede that winds down the playing field. Obstacles such as spiders, fleas, and scorpions complicate the game. At the same time, a population of mushrooms grows between the player and the centipede.

CHEATS (file edits)

Note: This procedure involves editing a game file; create a backup copy of the file before proceeding. Use a text editor to edit the "centi.chr" file in the "centipede/chars" directory. Locate the section marked "FIRSTINVENTORY=" and change all the 0 or 1 values to 999 for 999 shots of all special weapons.
Locate the section marked "HITPOINTS=" and change the 1 to a 0 for invincibility.

Start the game using one of the following command line parameters to activate the corresponding cheat function. WARNING: Several of these codes will crash the retail version of the game.

Use GCI flight controller on COM2: for input: -g

Load the indicated .lvl file and records record.dat demo: -L

Use VESA 640x480 for output device: -V

Null (benchmarking) GFX device: -B

Use DirectX5 for output device: -X

Record game to record.dat file: -r

Play the demo once: -p (demoname)

Enable space combat: -S

Enable space Boss encounter: -O

View keyboard bindings: -?

Use fast logs: -f

Run game indicated number of times faster: -s (number)

Gather and dump frame rate statistics: -T

Only one sim per render: -1

Do the checksums: -c

Set the default character: -C (character name)

No logs: -N

Set screen resolution (320x200, 320x240, etc.): -M (mode)

Set pixel format to INDEXED8 or RGB565: -P (mode)

Abort after 100 frames: -A

Force high color: -H
