CentOS 5.7, a free Linux distribution based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and used on many web servers, has received a sleuth of updates.

Any updates made in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) translate into CentOS. There are 11 updates in total, split for two architectures (32-bit and 64-bit). The entire list of updates can be found here, but we'll just mention the most important ones.

The first notable bug fix relates to OpenAIS. When stopping the cman service on a cluster node shutdown, the groupd daemon often exited with the "groupd: cpg_leave error retrying" error message, causing OpenAIS to become unresponsive. Cluster nodes can now be shut down as expected.

A second bug fix is for the mkinitrd utility. Due to an incomplete regular expression in the code, the mkinitrd utility did not recognize multipath devices located in the /dev/mpath/ directory. As a consequence, the system could not boot if such a multipath device contained the root filesystem. The mkinitrd utility now correctly recognizes multipath devices.
