The last years have witnessed an immense boost in what multimedia is concerned and portability has been the key-word. Even more, combining the portability issue with multimedia has generated an even bigger spree as both customers and manufacturers started to chase the ultimate borders of integrated multimedia and compatibility.

At the same time, a new problem emerged: how should things be done such as to be able to interconnect as many of the portable multimedia technologies for the customer to smile in content?... iPod was the number one winner
of this pseudo-race as it has been the star of most products that have had their specs tweaked so the hyper-popular portable media player could be linked to them. From separate docking stations to wireless ports, the music and - generally speaking - audio systems all went iPod.

Now it seems that the "iPod fever" has gone a bit milder but the next step has already been made: cellphones and audio systems! Philips has released two audio systems with wireless support for music streaming from the cellphones. Both BMT628 and BMT630 sound systems sport Bluetooth connectivity (besides the iPod port) that allow the users to play louder the music files stored on their mobile devices.

The audio system will even let you answer your calls

Even more, not only mobile phones are envisioned to work with these two systems, but the new-generation MP3 players with Bluetooth support, as well. From distances of max 30 feet you can send Bluetooth streams to the Philips sound systems and this isn't by far all the new stuff: if you happen to be called on your phone, the LCD screen of the music station will display the caller's ID and let you take the call with a simple push of a button on your cellphone.

The music level drops and the built-in mic on the audio system will catch your voice while the speakers will deliver the caller's words. Or, if you prefer not to answer, the call will be redirected to the voice mail box...

Even if you still want to connect your CD player to the BTM28 or BMT30, this feature still exists, so do not despair... The Philips BMT28 is due in September for $149 and the Philips BMT30 in August for $199.
