ThinkSecret announces that Apple is about to finalize the first cell phone version of iTunes. The solution, momentarily entitled iTunes Mobile 1.0, has started to be developed since last year, when Apple and Motorola announced a partnership whose objective is the manufacture of the first cell phone compatible with iTunes.
The Motorola phone, the result of this partnership, has been several times
announced, or rather waited to be presented during CeBit or 3GSM, but the producers are still secretive and it looks like Motorola iTunes will be available this summer. However, the date is uncertain due to the difficulties faced by the two companies regarding service providers willing to promote this phone.
BusinessWeek announces that this year, cell phone operators like Verizon, Cingular and Sprint intend to launch their own music download services, having prices of 2-3 USD per song, that's double or triple the 99 cents demanded by Apple for a downloaded track.
Apple is relying on the idea that users will copy the music on the iTunes phone after they have downloaded it on their desktop. The transfer between the desktop and the phone is achieved through a standard connection.
Sources close to the producing companies announced that regardless of what's next, iTunes Mobile 1.0 will be ready exactly in time for Motorola to present the final product at the end of the summer.
