As expected, Indian handset maker Celkon has just released its first ever smartphone powered by Windows Phone mobile platform, the Win 400.

The only thing worthy of attention when it comes to Celkon Win 400 is the price. Celkon previously promised the smartphone would go on sale in India by November 30 for a very low price.

True to its promise, the Indian OEM made the Celkon Win 400 available for purchase via Snapdeal online retailer for only Rs 4,700 outright, which is about $75 or €60.

In case Celkon decides to bring its Windows Phone handset to additional countries, the price is likely to go up if the smartphone is introduced in other than emerging markets.

Anyway, the Win 400 will certainly make for a good first smartphone, but those who want to switch to Windows Phone from other platform and don’t want to spend too much money can take it into consideration as well.

One of the cheapest Windows Phone handsets available on the market, Celkon Win 400 comes with the lowest specs possible in order to fit in that suggested retail price.

Even if the smartphone is equipped with less powerful hardware than other Android handsets in the same price range, Windows Phone operating system is known to offer the same smooth experience on most hardware specifications.

The smartphone comes with Windows Phone 8.1 out of the box

The only downside that Celkon Win 400 users might experience is the fact that the smartphone comes with only 512MB of RAM, which means that it won’t be able to run some apps and games that require 1GB of RAM. Thankfully, there aren’t too many apps that ask for at least 1GB of RAM to run properly.

Apart from the 512MB of RAM, the Win 400 is packed with a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor, an Adreno 302 graphics processing unit and 4GB of internal memory. Obviously, the smartphone also packs microSD card slot for memory expansion up to 32GB.

Celkon Win 400 sports a small 4-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 800 pixels resolution and 233ppi (pixel per inch).

The smartphone features a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back with LED flash and HD (720p) video recording. Surprisingly, there’s a secondary 1.3-megapixel camera in the front as well.

Connectivity-wise, the Win 400 offers a variety of options, including HSPA (21Mbps), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB 2.0 and GPS with A-GPS support. Celkon Win 400 is powered by a 1500 mAh battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.
