As it turns out, more mobile phone makers in India are interested in the release of new, highly affordable devices in the country, and Celkon is one of them.

The company has made official its Android 4.4-based Celkon Campus A35K handset, which appears to be the most affordable KitKat smartphone in the country at the moment.

The new mobile phone has been unveiled with a price tag of only Rs. 2,999 ($50/€37) attached to it, and no other similarly priced KitKat phone is available to match it.

Of course, there would be the Karbonn A50S, which was made official on Friday at Rs. 2,799 ($47/€35), but that mobile phone runs under Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, a much older variant of Google’s mobile operating system.

However, one thing that should be noted right from the start about the new Celkon Campus A35K is the fact that it comes with very low hardware specifications inside.

Even so, considering the fact that it is a smartphone and that it is priced in line with affordable feature phones out there, it will certainly appeal to those interested in upgrading.

The new handset has been made official with a 3.5-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a qHD resolution, and is powered by a 1GHz processor.

Moreover, it sports 256MB of RAM, which is certainly very low when compared to what other devices out there have to offer, but which should deliver a decent experience to those coming from a feature phone.

The new Celkon Campus A35K also sports 512MB of internal storage, complemented by a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes.

Unlike the Karbonn A50S, this smartphone also includes support for 3G networks, which should make it even more appealing. Moreover, the handset packs the usual set of connectivity capabilities as well, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS receiver.

On the back, the mobile phone features a 3.2-megapixel camera, which is complemented by a VGA front camera, so that users could make video calls while on the go. The device is powered by a 1400mAh battery.

As AndroidOS notes, the new handset is set to become available for purchase in India exclusively via Snapdeal.com, and users will be able to grab it in Blue and White color options.

Overall, the new Celkon Campus A35K should prove a nice option for feature phone users looking to get their first smartphone, especially courtesy of its low price tag, though it remains to be seen whether it will manage to attract many to its side.
