In 2003, the Canadian songbird signed a very lucrative contract with Ceasars Palace, pocketing $100 million for three years. In 2006, Celine Dion's contract was extended to also cover next year, so that must only mean that her shows are highly successful.
But the strain of performing five nights a week and do a number created by former Cirque Du Soleil Artistic Director Franco Dragone for her 'A New Day' show finally showed its nasty side, as the multi-platinum singer was taken down with a serious bout of bacterial infection.
A team of doctors diagnosed Celine with mycoplasma bronchitis, ordering her to stay at home, rest in bed and especially rest her throat for at least one week. Consequently, the artist was forced to cancel her next five performances scheduled to take place at the hotel/casino, as well as her appearance at the Billboard Music Awards, also in Las Vegas.
The canceled performances were scheduled to take place from November 29 until December 3rd but Dion will not be returning on the stage after this period is over. Also, on her doctors' recommendation, she will then go on a holiday, ending with December 28.
All the fans who bought tickets for the canceled gigs will be refunded. Those who used their credit cards will get their money back immediately, while the others will have to go to the place of purchase for that. There is also the option of choosing among other scheduled performances, if they still wish to see Celine.
