Celcom (Malaysia) Berhad and HTC Corporation announced recently that the HTC Magic, the second mobile phone in the world to feature the Google Android operating system, would become available for purchase in Malaysia as soon as June 15. The HTC Magic is the first Android device that comes to the country, and is meant to offer users a superior mobile Internet experience.

The mobile phone comes to the market with a 3.2” HVGA touchscreen display, coupled with a trackball for easy access, a 3.2-megapixel photo snapper, an onscreen QWERTY keyboard with predictive text GPS capabilities, support for Outlook synchronization and a Smart Dialer, being able to offer a leveraged entertainment and communication experience to all users.

“The introduction of the HTC Magic is the result of a successful relationship between Celcom and HTC. For the first time, we have come together to offer this new and exciting phone to our customers where they will be the first to feel the magic of the first-Android powered device in Malaysia. With the advent of Android platform, coupled with Celcom undisputed network coverage, this becomes a perfect combination to help those living life on the fast lane to maintain a successful work and an exciting social lifestyle,” stated Mr. Chee Pok Jin, chief marketing officer of Celcom (Malaysia) Berhad.

The trackball included with HTC Magic also features zoom in/out functions, while the handset sports auto screen rotation for Internet browsing and easy navigation. The Smart Dialer feature enables users to call people in a wide range of ways, including dialing the phone number or dialing the first letters in their name. In addition, the Magic also includes Microsoft Exchange server synchronization and multiple mailbox support.

“The HTC Magic embodies the compact style and sophistication for which HTC has come to be known, with the powerful and intuitive internet experience for which the Android platform was designed,” says Peter Chou, president and CEO, HTC Corporation. When it becomes available, the handset will feature a price tag of RM 2,699, and will also include an 8GB microSD memory card in the package. While on June 15 the Magic will come to all participating Blue Cubes outlets, it should become available via all authorized resellers starting mid-July 2009 (the package will include only a 2GB microSD memory card).
