Barracuda Networks Inc., a leading player in the email and Web security appliance area, announced the launch of the Barracuda SSL VPN 680, the company's latest addition to the SSL VPN product line. The new Barracuda SSL VPN 680 is able to support up to 500 users simultaneously, which could prove a great option for organizations that have thousands of users. Furthermore, it seems to be one of the most affordable solutions for large organizations, as it costs only $8,999 with no per-user fees.

“The benefits of SSL VPN technology have gone largely unrealized due to the high price and complexity associated with most solutions on the market,” said Stephen Pao, vice president of product management for Barracuda Networks. “With the Barracuda SSL VPN 680 we are breaking price and performance barriers for the enterprise and leveraging the simplicity of Barracuda Networks appliance deployment model.”

The Barracuda SSL VPN 680 has been designed to use existing SSL capabilities that are included in every modern Web browser, providing users with easy access, just like when browsing over the Internet. It provides an intuitive user interface that facilitates administration and maintenance, while also providing granular access for greater control over individual resources. At the same time, it includes a user portal that allows users to view the available resources, in comparison with traditional VPN.

The Barracuda SSL VPN comes as an integrated solution sporting both hardware and software and is meant to offer secure, clientless remote access to internal network resources. It has been developed to fulfill the needs of remote employees, and it is able to deliver comprehensive control over Web-based applications and file systems. At the same time, the Barracuda SSL VPN integrates third-party authentication mechanisms that offer control over user access levels.

According to the company, the new Barracuda SSL VPN 680 is already available at $8,999 with no per-user fees. Depending on geographies, the international pricing and availability might vary.
