The solutions are based on both NVIDIA and ATI GPUs

At the ceBIT show in Hanover, Germany, graphics card maker Gainward was proud to demonstrate some of its latest products based on either NVIDIA or AMD GPUs. However, one of the more impressive aspects at the company's booth was the live demos of the 3DVision products, enabled by NVIDIA, and also a 3D demonstration using ATI Radeon graphics cards.

As many of you might know, Gainward was up until recently an exclusive NVIDIA AIB partner, and only started to move towards ATI products in the second half of last year. The company released on the market new graphics cards based on Radeon HD 4850 and 4870-series GPUs.

When it comes to the 3D at the CeBIT, it seems that the NVIDIA solution Gainward brought with it is able to deliver better performance than the ATI one. The overall feeling the NVIDIA solution gave isn't comparable with the one you'll get from ATI's solution, especially given the fact that it would also require the use of a 3D monitor.

In addition, the NVIDIA solution also comes with support for more than 200 game titles, while being able to add 3D effects into the gameplay on displays delivering a 120 Hz refresh rate. At the same time, it seems that the effective refresh rate is halved, as each eye receives 60Hz, said to be the minimum refresh rate needed for flicker-free viewing.

Another common fact is that AMD and iZ3D have partnered earlier this year to deliver 3D gaming experience to users. For what it's worth, as stated above, ATI's solution needs both the 3D capable display and specially polarized glasses to feel the effects.

For the time being, Gainward wasn't too concrete when the availability of the 3D solution came into discussion. We'll keep you informed as soon as more details are available, so stay tuned.
