CeBIT 2008: Hands-On with Sony Ericsson T303, the Shiny Entry-level Slider

- Good looks for little money

By: Florin Troaca, Communications News Editor & Cosmin Vasile, Communications News Editor

Sony Ericsson is (of course) present at the CeBIT 2008 Fair in Hanover, Germany, with some of its latest phones. Unfortunately, the only real novelty from the Swedish-Japanese company is the T303 slider, all the other SE handsets presented at CeBIT being already announced before.

Sony Ericsson T303 is an entry-level device that we saw last week in several leaked images, thanks to a SE dedicated forum from Saudi Arabia. At first, from those leaked photos, the phone seemed to be a nice looking mid-level one. In reality, T303 is indeed nice looking, but its features clearly put it into the entry-level category. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, since the world also needs entry-level phones – not everyone wants or affords handsets like Nokia N82, Sony Ericsson K850 or Apple's iPhone, right?

T303 weighs 93 grams, measures 83 x 47 x 14.7 mm (when closed) and packs a 1.8 inch TFT display with 65K colors and a 128 x 160 pixels resolution. Furthermore, the phone features tri-band GSM connectivity, GPRS, MP3 player, FM radio (with pre-set stations), TrackID music recognition, Java MIDP 2.0, 1.3 Megapixel camera, "SMS long" capability, handsfree, voice memo, T9, stopwatch and a Li-Po battery that should provide about 9 hours of talk-time and up to 400 hours of stand-by time. There's no microSD card support, so users will have to be happy with the 8MB of built-in memory.

Even if its features are not great, Sony Ericsson T303 is still a cool little phone that many users will get to like. The slider will soon be available (in black and silver) in Europe, the US and Asia. There are no details about the phone's price, but don't worry, it will surely be an affordable one.
