General Mobile, a new player in the mobile phone industry, is present at CeBIT 2008 (4 - 9 March 2008) with very interesting products. One of them is GM500, a weird mix of two
different devices: a GSM mobile phone and a watch.

Measuring only 58.1 x 44.2 x 16.4 mm and weighing 142 grams (battery and metal wristband included), the hybrid is definitely among the smallest GSM mobile phones ever created. The tiny cell watch can act like a handsfree for sporty / active people, providing flexibility in any situation. The usability of the phone has been improved by including touchscreen technology. Phone calls, SMS and MMS, listening to music or watching videos - the cell watch offers them all at the touch of a finger.

GM500 is a tri-band GSM device (900, 1800 and 1900 MHz) that comes with an 1.5 inch OLED touchscreen display, GPRS, WAP, Internet capabilities, Bluetooth and USB data transfer, music player (MP3 support), video player (MPEG4 and 3GP) and voice recorder. Furthermore, the device has 128 MB of built-in memory and can store 300 phonebook entries. Its 400 mAh Li-ion battery is capable of providing 120 minutes of talk time and about 80 hours of stand-by time.

We've seen before concepts that combine a cell phone and a wristwatch in a single device, but most of them are either too big either too ugly. Well, GM500 seems to be just perfect, in both looks and functionality. If a photo camera had been included too, the device would have indeed been perfect.

The GM500 cell watch should be available starting the second quarter of 2008, the same as all the new devices presented by General Mobile at this year's CeBIT Fair. GM500 will be sold for a suggested retail price of 599 Euros (about $910), with a Bluetooth headset included in the package.

Here are two live pics with GM500, straight from CeBIT:
