CeBIT 2008: Dreamcom Shows Fully-Adjustable Laptop

- It is modular and... weird

By: Bogdan Botezatu, Hardware Editor

This year's CeBIT has revealed quite a large amount of oddities, among the rich laptop offerings we have already talked about. Apart from Asustek's Lamborghini, the CeBIT also introduced a fully-customized
notebook system produced by the Swiss-based company Dreamcom Corporations.

The Dreamcom 10 series notebook is designed to provide new approaches to healthy mobile computing for business professionals as well as for home users. The notebook not only integrates quite some powerful hardware, but it also comes with some interesting features that would allow the user to perform physical adjustments to the laptop, to improve the mobile working comfort and add more convenience.

The device comes with a vertically adjustable screen to allow the user lift the display to a convenient viewing angle, as well as with a mobile docking station that easily adapts to multiple environments. While unleashing the power of additional I/O ports. The screen can be vertically adjusted in three height positions for a total height of 15 centimeter. Company tests reveal that almost 90 percent of users can achieve optimal and comfortable viewing heights and angles until the maximum height is reached.

Under the hood, the notebook hides a 2.2GHz T7500 processor, 2GB of DDR2 RAM, a couple of USB 2.0 ports, ExpressCard slot, 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600, Bluetooth / Wi-Fi, as well as a 160GB hard drive to meet your storage needs.

The device comes with a fingerprint scanner for biometric identification, which lets the legit user log on to the system at a single swipe of a finger. The built-in Trusted Platform Module is a passive chip that acts like an always-on smartcard that allows the identification of the processor.

At the moment, Dreamcom is the only notebook manufactured to offer fully-adjustable hardware. There is no word on pricing or availability yet, but Softpedia is present at this year's CeBIT expo and we will come back with further details as they get published.
