What with “Mirror Mirror” and “Snow White and the Huntsman” out, and “Hansel & Gretel” and “Maleficent” soon to arrive in theaters, there’s no doubt that fairytale-inspired movies are the next big thing. You can add another one to the must-see list: Disney’s “Untitled Cinderella Project.”

Cate Blanchett is in talks for a role in it, that of the evil stepmother, The Wrap has learned.

If negotiations end with her signing on the dotted line, she will become the first star attached officially to the project.

“Blanchett would be the first to be cast in the live-action film. It is being directed by Mark Romanek for the studio based on a script by Chris Weitz. The film is being produced by Simon Kinberg, who is best-known for the ‘X-Men’ series,” The Wrap reports.

The first draft of the script comes from Aline Brosh McKenna, who also penned the critically acclaimed “Devil Wears Prada.”

An estimated release date for the film has not been mentioned yet but, with Blanchett on board, I can say I’m already pretty hyped about it: the woman is simply flawless in everything she does.
