Cate Blanchett, the British actress often praised for her almost rigid aristocracy on the red carpet and especially for the gracefulness she manages to bring to every character she takes on, is now on the cover and in the pages of the June 2010 issue of W Magazine. The actress is currently starring in “Robin Hood” and, in order to promote it, she’s offering fans a glimpse behind the glamorous curtain that is her life.

As we were also telling you over the weekend, though Ridley Scott’s film garnered mostly lukewarm reviews at best, Blanchett’s performance in it has not gone by unnoticed. In fact, her characterization of Maid Marion is so excellent that many a critic even said that she was giving Russell Crowe a run for his money in the film. With all this, the actress insists that she knows only too well that she won’t be in such high demand for much longer, as her husband and most devoted supporter, Andrew Upton, once told her.

“My husband keeps me really honest. I remember him saying to me after I made Elizabeth, ‘Sweetheart, you’ve probably got about five years.’ He was preparing me for the time when the work dries up, as it invariably does. We’re really open. I have friends – she’s an actor/writer married to a director – and she was horrified when we said we were going to work together. She said they don’t talk about work because they don’t want to venture into the territory of being criticized by you partner. But I know what to do with the criticism,” the actress explains.

As for criticism and what people generally make of her (and later go public with those same opinions), Cate says she doesn’t really care, regardless of what people may state to the contrary. “I’m so misunderstood! I’m not focused on what other people think of me. Some people get you and some people don’t, and to spend your life trying to make people understand how deep and complex and varied you are – I think that way lies madness,” she explains.

As also noted above, Cate Blanchett can now be seen in theaters in most territories in Ridley Scott’s “Robin Hood,” opposite Russell Crowe. A full review of the film is here.
