We have heard of dogs trained to detect drugs, but it seems that cats also have the ability to sniff out controlled substances, so law enforcement should explore their potential in the future.

A New Zealand woman called police to rat out her cat when it came home with a surprise haul – a bag of marijuana. While many other cat owners would be grateful if their pets surprised them like that, the shocked owner of this generous feline immediately contacted the authorities.

She reportedly called police in Dunedin at about 6 p.m. on Sunday, after she found a bag containing 5g (0.2oz) of cannabis on her doorstep.

“You hear of cats bringing dead birds and rats home but certainly in my career I've never seen anything like this before,” Sergeant Reece Munro told the Otago Daily Times. “I guess you never really know who's keeping you honest these days, do you?”

He also mentioned that the pot had a street value of between $100 (€73) and $150 (€110). The origin of the drugs remains a mystery, but Munro said they would examine the bag for fingerprints to see if they can identify the owner.

The drug-trafficking feline has not been charged, but police is conducting a full-blown investigation in this hilarious case.
