Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. has announced that Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, its latest release in the long running series, has managed to shop one million units on the North American and European markets.

The game is available on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, with development of the game handled by Mercury Steam under guidance from Kojima Productions.

Konami has not said exactly how many copies the game sold since its official launch date of October 5 in the United States and October 7 in Europe, but the game has not managed to break the top ten video game chart as compiled by the NPD Group for the month of October, suggesting that quite a few of those shipped copies of the game are still available in stores.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is a sort of reboot for the series, telling the story of Gabriel Belmont, a knight which belongs to the Brotherhood of Light and is sworn to defend the world from evil and its machinations.

When his wife is killed by the forces he needs to fight Gabriel begins a quest to track down the mysterious force known just as the Lord of Shadow.

The game has more than 50 stages, 45 enemies to fight and more than 40 combos which Gabriel can perform.

Shinji Hirano, who is the president of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc, has stated, “Castlevania has truly reinvented itself with its move to next gen platforms and we're extremely pleased at the positive response we've seen toward Castlevania: Lords of Shadow globally, mainly due to the dedicated fans who have supported the series for so long.”

He added, “The remarkable sales achieved in such a short time are a true testament of the work and dedication that went into this project, and we're very grateful to have partnered with such fine talent in the rebirth of one of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc.'s most successful franchises.”
