A patch is still in the works

Castle Crashers really took the Xbox Live Arcade by storm. The side scrolling adventure game which was the brainchild of Dan Paladin and Tom Fulp and developed by The Behemoth has now reached over 250,000 downloads. The number is that shocking considering that the game isn't even a month old (since it was launched onto the Xbox Live Arcade, at the price of 1200 Microsoft Points, about $15).

The game, a classic side scrolling beat-em-up, sets you, a knight, with your friends, who are also knights of various colors, in search of your king's daughters. This quest takes you through different areas and puts you and your friends against a variety of enemies which you must defeat in order to save the princesses. It can be played in single player mode but also has an option where you can play with up to three friends of yours, either locally or online, via the Live connection.

It has definitely gained a lot of popularity and surpassed their creators' wildest dreams, Dan Paladin admitting that “I was optimistic and hopeful for Castle Crashers, but I wasn't prepared for the reception it got”. He surely didn't imagine the game reaching the 250,000 download mark in almost a month, or think that their previous project, Alien Hominid HD, would get a boost in downloads, “since launch we've seen a rediscovery of this game, and approximately five times the number of people are now playing the game compared to earlier this year”, Paladin also said.

Regarding the much awaited patch for the game, Paladin replied that it is developed but it needs to be tested thoroughly before it is officially launched, “It is not a simple process of fix something and release an update. You fix, you test, you verify in as many situations as possible, you fix again if you need to, you submit the update to Microsoft, they verify the fix, etcetera”. One thing's for sure, a lot of people are waiting for the patch to the annoying save game issues and network problems.
