The story of ridiculous selfie cameras continues

We can say our obsession with selfies has escalated to some ridiculous levels in the past few months. One company in particular has managed to stun everyone (and not in a good way) when it announced a selfie-centric camera shaped like a perfume bottle.

What’s more, the device turned out to embed Sony’s new curved sensor technology, the one everybody has been drooling over ever since news of it popped up in the rumor mill.

Casio thinks the selfie camera is the way to go

But you won’t encounter weird-looking selfie-taking cameras only in Sony-land. For example, Japanese company Casio has one that will certainly rival Sony’s ridiculous scent-embedded snapper.

You might remember that a while back Casio launched the EX-TR50 selfie camera coming with a quite chunky price tag, which was enough to deter most customers going out shopping for a self-love camera.

Well, as of this week Casio has another one for you. It’s called the “Kawaii Selfie by Mirror Camera” or if you prefer the more technical Exilim MR1.

If you think the name of the camera is strange, wait until you get a good look at it. The device features a 14MP sensor and comes with a huge mirror placed in the middle of the camera, so you can adjust your hair, your make-up, and even rehearse your poses.

Don’t expect the camera to have any other mind-blowing features because it’s obviously the Exilim MR1 has been designed with one purpose in mind and that’s to help you take snapshots of yourself.

Its default aperture is set at f/5.0, not much if you’re up for some action photography or anything involving low-light.

As for the “kawaii” part, it has been added because the camera has a software that will help enhance your skin tone and add smoothness.

Other features include built-in Wi-Fi, video recording and playback and support for microSDXC cards. The device lives off a 700mAh battery which allows users to snap 230 still images or shoot 35 minutes of full HD videos.

Ladies will find the Casio Exilim MR1 appealing

Like Sony’s perfume-bottle-shaped camera, the MR1 has been designed mostly for the ladies. That’s why it is offered in white, pink and green coloring options and is as light as a feather (weighs only 133 g / 0.29 lbs.

You can see the results on the 2.7-inch LCD display and there are also plenty of physical buttons for operating the setting section.

The camera will go on sale for $330 / €268, which is still a little too much for a selfie camera.
