As you probably know already, projectors are divided into several families, depending on their intended use and level of portability. Most ultra-portable projectors are slim and light, while those designed for installed projector applications are more on the bulky side. However, it would seem that Casio really wants to change this design concept, as it has just announced four new projectors that, albeit targeting the second category mentioned above, have a very slim form factor.

So, what we're dealing with here are 4 models: XJ-SC215, XJ-SC210, XJ-S57 and XJ-S52, each providing their own special features but sharing a few common characteristics. For example, as the company informs us, the XJ-SC200 series features "Casio's Super Color?" Technology and the XJ-S50 "Casio's Super Bright?" series is designed for high brightness applications. Moreover, the devices are touted to have the world's thinnest body, as they measure only 1.26-inches at their thinnest point with an overall thickness of 1.69-inches.

Additionally, the XJ-SC210 and XJ-SC215 have been further improved by incorporating Casio's high-fidelity color-rendering enhancements. This new series is intended for applications where color accuracy is most important, and for this reason the models from this family come packed with enhanced color technology, whereby the chromaticity region has been expanded approximately 10% over current Super Slim models. This is achieved by adopting a high-fidelity color-rendering light engine algorithm and improved color wheel, as well as providing a maximum brightness level of around 2500 lumens.

On the other hand, the XJ-S50 series really impresses us with its improved brightness level (3000 ANSI lumens), as well as the 2X power zoom lens. The XJ-S57 and XJ-S52 also support connectivity for control through RS-232 and will be compatible with Crestron, Extron, and AMX products. Additionally, the XJ-SC215 and XJ-S57 will include a USB port for wireless connectivity through an optional WiFi receiver, providing expanded connectivity in the conference room for notebooks and allowing up to four PCs to connect at a time.

Furthermore, the USB port also supports PC-less presentations carried out via the USB flash drive, since by using the Casio EZ-Converter Pro software one can convert and present spreadsheets, word processor and presentations including PDF, JPEG, BMP and video (AVI format: MPEG4 standard/Motion JPEG) files.

Both the Super Color and Super Bright models are scheduled to arrive in stores at some point in August '08 and their MSRPs will start somewhere at $1,299 - $1,599, depending on the exact series.
