The Dr. Phil Show kicked off a brand new season the other night with what can only be described as one of the most explosive interviews ever, as Phil McGraw sat down with Casey Anthony’s parents, George and Cindy, to talk about their daughter’s acquittal of murder earlier this year.
Those who have yet to hear of the name of Casey Anthony must be few – but, for them, a brief summary: she stood trial for the murder of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee, of whose disappearance she lied to authorities for 31 days, and was acquitted in the summer of 2011.
Despite all signs pointing to her being guilty of the heinous crime, Casey walked free, a sentence contested by the majority of Americans ever since.
Her own father shares the same belief – as he made it clear on the show. Casey should have been held responsible for what happened to Caylee and justice was not served because she wasn’t.
“That’s being truthful. I don’t want to see my daughter put to death but I wanted her held responsible for my granddaughter. I did, and I still do,” he told Dr. Phil, as cited by Time magazine.
Because of this, he was shocked to hear that jurors found his daughter not guilty in the trial.
“I remember I started to shake,” he recalls. “Oh my God. My daughter is going to walk out of here and I’m never going to know about Caylee,” he thought.
Cindy, on the other hand, was “elated” to her of Casey’s acquittal. In fact, throughout the interview (as the two videos below will confirm), she went to great lengths trying to come up with excuses for Casey’s behavior in the days immediately following Caylee’s disappearance.
Cindy even says that her daughter may have “developed post-partum schizophrenia” or that she had a form of psychotic episode because of a brain tumor to explain the years she lied to them.
She seems to have forgiven Casey for whatever she did. George, on the other hand, not so much.
“I do love my daughter, [but] I don’t like what she’s done to this family,” he says.
Below are two fragments from the interview the Anthonys did with Dr. Phil. Check them out and leave your take on the whole thing below in the comments section.
I think its pretty sad when a beautiful little girl has her life taken away by a spoiled brat. Her Mother, I used to feel so bad for, I can't imagine how she can feel about her daughter the way she does. I understand her love for her I too am a Mother, but to stand behind her the way she does after knowing her daughter is truely responsible for her granddaughter's death no mater how it was done, to tell the lies about her father and brother, tells me that she may be part of the reason her daughter was able to do the things she has done.
She's GUILTY. She's the best ACTRESS I KNOW!! My daughter has always said: WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND. Just like O.J. Ha Ha Ha Finally it came around for him and as GOD IS MY WITNESS (quote from SCARLETT in GONE WITH THE WIND) her day will come. I just hope I am still alive! She was sooo jealous of the relationship of little Caylee and Cindy that's why I really believe she got rid of her. I don't believe in my heart that it was an accident. She'll screw up somehow someday. She's living the other GOOD LIFE!! What a phsycho!!!
