Facebook members created a few hundred profiles on the case of Casey Anthony

Facebook members may be faced these days with a scam that claims the controversial Casey Anthony, who was accused some time ago of killing her own child, managed to pass all the necessary formalities to adopt a child from Romania.

Not long ago, we saw the Facebook post that alerted dog owners of nails being found in parks carefully hidden in bits of cheese. Then we witnessed how the social network was forcing their customers to pay if they wanted to keep their accounts.

Facecrooks reports that as in the previous cases, the Casey Anthony post is nothing more than a hoax.

“Orange County authorities confirmed that Casey Anthony applied to adopt a baby girl (2 years old) from Eastern Europe in early 2010. She was accepted by the Romanian government – pending the conclusion of her trial,” reads the phony story.

The link in the scam points to a news website called Weekly World News that claims Casey Anthony paid tens of thousands for the baby and that Romanians are “appalled” by the adoption, but if we take a closer look at the site we realize that it actually specializes in hoax stories.

Other stories refer to Selena Gomez pregnant with Justin Bieber's baby , Ashton Kutcher leaving Demi for Betty White, alien spaceships approaching earth and even a story that claims Megan Fox is a man. Since all the news seem to be well documented, they might seem real, but a closer look on the website clearly tells that they're not.

Getting back to the point of this article, there's nothing that differentiates this from the ones in which dogs were threatened or the one where Facebook customers had to pay to keep their accounts.

Spamming profile walls and alarming people on stories that are not quite funny is never a good thing.

Users are advised to take a second look at a source before spamming and alarming their friends of 9/11 stories, aliens, fake adoptions or tales of Megan Fox being a man.
