Madonna's prodigious musical career has already won her a notable place in the history of modern entertainment, but the iconic singer is reportedly very keen to carve a name for herself in the cinema hall of fame as well. One tiny problem, however, is that so far, her career as an actress has been riddled with a series of high-profile (and quite humiliating) flops, the likes of Shanghai Surprise, Body Of Evidence and most noticeably "Swept Away", the 2002 collaboration with husband Guy Ritchie which she would probably like to wipe from all cinema history records. And since she was never one to fear taking chances, Madonna's next project is to reportedly butcher... that is, remake what many see as one of the best ever accomplishments in film-making business: the classic Casablanca.

Yes, movie lovers around the world better start sending round petitions - Madonna is intent on ruining Casablanca by starring in a remake set in Iraq - of all the places in this world. However, as you can easily imagine, not everybody is thrilled with her initiative. "She

is still determined to make it in the movies. She and her representatives have been touting around a project which is a remake of Casablanca," states a source. "The reception has been lukewarm to say the least. No one can understand why she wants to redo what many people consider the greatest film of all time," the source adds. But when has public outrage ever stopped Madonna from going through with her projects?

"Madonna is talking about taking the Ingrid Bergman role for herself, even though Bergman was in her 20s when she played Ilsa and Madonna is nearly 50. She wants to update the story and maybe set it in a modern war zone such as Iraq. There is no script yet," the same source also revealed, also adding that "Madonna and her people are testing the waters to see if this is the right vehicle for her and if a major studio will get behind the project." A Casablanca remake with a middle-aged heroine set in Iraq may not be exactly what the world needs right now - and it definitely doesn't sound like it will land Madonna anywhere close to an Oscar any time soon. Fingers crossed she will drop this and stick to what she does best - music.
